PURPOSE

The purpose of this International Personnel Certification Schemes (IPCS) is to define RSA minimum qualification and certification requirements of Welding Inspector in accordance with The American Welding Society (AWS) Standard B5.1.

SCOPE

  1. The IPCS is developed to meet the minimum qualification and certification requirements for personnel seeking Welding Inspector certification in accordance with AWS Standard B5.1:2013, AMD1:2014.
  2. Certification under this IPCS serves as an attestation of general competence for Welding Inspectors.
  3. The certification does not authorize individuals to operate, authorization remains the employer's responsibility.
  4. Employers must provide written authorization through quality procedures that include job-specific training and examinations to verify the certificate holder's knowledge of applicable codes, standards, procedures and equipment.
  5. The levels of Welding Inspector certification covered by this IPCS are defined in accordance with relevant codes, standards, specifications and regulations.

CERTIFICATION

Associate Welding Inspector - Performs inspections under the supervision of a Welding or Senior Welding Inspector, who remains responsible for determining compliance with workmanship and acceptance criteria.

Welding Inspector - Supervises and trains Associate Inspectors, conducts inspections, verifies work compliance with standards, perform audits, maintains inspection records and certifies welding procedures and welder qualiifications.

Senior Welding Inspector - Oversees all inspection activites, including supervision of inspectors and NDT personnel. Prepares and reviews inspection procedures, conducts vendor audits, ensures compliance with standards and contracts and certifies welding procedures and welders.
